Government sources responded to a Financial Times report on Monday titled “Greece prepares for debt default if talks with creditors fail.” Sources stated “we will let them down once again” adding that Greece is not preparing for default.

The same sources said that negotiations are continuing feverishly with the aim of finding a mutually beneficial solution. The government stressed that the “do-or-die” scenarios for the Eurogroup meeting on April 24 will show that the “end of the world” will not happen. They pointed to previous dates when “end-of-the-world” scenarios were predicted for Greece, such as the election date of January 25, February 28 that marked the expiration of the memorandum agreement signed by the previous government and April 9 when Greece paid a tranche to the IMF.

Speculation on election scenarios were also dismissed.
