In the early morning hours of Thursday, February 5, the competent military authorities proceeded with the arrest of a member of the Armed Forces in connection with a case of espionage, according to an announcement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.
As stated, the arrest was carried out within a military facility, in cooperation and coordination with other state services and in the presence of an authorized prosecutorial authority. Clear indications of the commission of criminal acts, as provided for under the Military Penal Code, had preceded the arrest.
According to the same announcement, the acts attributed to the arrested individual concern the collection and transmission of classified information of military significance to third parties, posing a risk of harm to national interests.
