The regional community of Arta used a diver to photograph the foundations of the legendary Bridge of Arta to document damage that could have been caused by the torrential rains and gale-force winds during winter.
The documentation took place under the surveillance of a group of engineers from the Technical Services Administration of the Regional Unit of Arta in the presence of members of the Archeological Service as well as volunteer private engineers that were the main researchers concerning the renovation efforts during the Eighties.
Arta Bridge is a stone bridge that crosses the Arachthos River that has been rebuilt many times over the centuries, starting with Roman and perhaps older foundations. It currently stands as a 17th-century Ottoman construction.
The number of times that the beach has been rebuilt inspired the folk ballad “The Bridge of Arta” that tells the story of human sacrifice during its buildings.
