Two new Red Cross-dogs have been added to the Greek Dogs team, following a donation by Parliament.
This was announced today by the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, welcoming in Parliament the President of the Hellenic Red Cross, Dr. Antonios Avgerinos, accompanied by three volunteer rescuers and the trained dogs-scouts who are valuable helpers in all procedures of searching and locating missing persons.

As noted in a statement, two of the three rescue dogs that came to the Parliament, King and Kira, are those donated by the Parliament to support the Hellenic Red Cross’ Canine Search and Rescue Team (K9). The training of these dogs has already begun and includes human scent detection, obedience, orientation and working under pressure, so that they can be immediately put into this critical service. The third detection dog, Ira, who came to Parliament, recently participated in the search for a missing person in Aegio.

The president of the Hellenic Red Cross, Dr. Antonios Avgerinos, warmly thanked the Parliament in the person of its president, Nikitas Kaklamanis, for the valuable offer, stressing that the contribution of the two rescue dogs is invaluable, as they significantly enhance the effectiveness of rescue operations and the safety of citizens.

For his part, the Speaker of the Parliament stressed that the donation is not his own contribution but that of the entire Parliament, which always stands actively by the actions and work of the Hellenic Red Cross.
