At the same time, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the country has consistently sought to keep its distance from regional conflicts and has worked to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community.

According to the statement, the ministers with whom Al-Muraikhi spoke expressed concern about developments in the region and called for de-escalation, calm and a return to negotiations and diplomatic channels in order to avoid further destabilization.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said today they are “waiting” for U.S. forces expected to escort commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, where navigation has nearly been paralyzed due to the war in the region.

“We are waiting for their presence,” said Guards spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naeini, following the announcement by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright that the U.S. Navy is preparing to escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We advise the Americans, before making any decision, to remember the fire on the American tanker Bridgeton in 1987 and the oil tankers that have recently been targeted,” Naeini added, according to the Fars news agency.
