After the trilateral meeting with Emmanuel Macron, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides visited the Hellenic Navy frigate Kimon. The ship, along with the frigate Psara and four F-16 Viper fighter jets, has been deployed to Cyprus as part of Greece’s defense assistance to the island.
During the visit, the two leaders were briefed on the operation’s progress and had the opportunity to speak with crew members, highlighting the readiness and rapid response of the Greek Armed Forces in strengthening Cyprus’s defense.

“We Are Doing Our Duty”
At the end of the visit, both leaders made statements:
“I want to thank you and publicly say that, at the initiative of the Greek Prime Minister, your presence in Cyprus is making history. The Cypriot people and the state sincerely thank you for being here to protect the Republic of Cyprus,” said Nikos Christodoulides.
“The duty we perform, dear Nikos, is to protect Cyprus in this challenging moment. I also want to thank once again the crews of our two frigates for the readiness and willingness with which they embraced this important mission. From the moment the central order was given, the ships set sail within five hours, which speaks volumes about the capabilities of our Armed Forces and especially of our Navy,” emphasized the Prime Minister, adding:
“Indeed, always know that we are here for whatever is needed. We did not expect that so soon after receiving the Kimon with the Captain, it would need to be operationally deployed, but here we are – and we will be again whenever necessary.”
