An alert was triggered Wednesday morning in Washington when a car crashed into a gate of the White House just before 7 a.m. local time, causing roads around the presidential complex to be closed.
According to authorities cited by the Daily Mail, the vehicle struck a gate located at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and H Street, on the north side of the White House.
The driver was arrested and is in the custody of the United States Secret Service, which is investigating the incident.
No injuries were reported from the collision.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in the United States following a series of attacks since Washington began its conflict with Iran.
On Saturday, two alleged members of the Islamic State threw improvised explosive devices during a protest outside the official residence of the New York City mayor.
The following day, after the first US strikes on Iran, an armed Islamist opened fire in a bar in Austin, Texas, killing three people and injuring 15 others.
