The Court of Appeal, which tried the case of the criminal organization Golden Dawn at second instance, has just announced its decision on the sentences.
With its ruling, the court maintained the same penalties that had been imposed in the first trial on members of the leadership of Golden Dawn.
Specifically, the Five-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies sentenced Golden Dawn Secretary General Nikos Michaloliakos to 13 years in prison for directing a criminal organization. The same sentence was imposed on Ilias Kasidiaris, Giannis Lagos, Christos Pappas, Giorgos Germenis, and Ilias Panagiotaros.
Artemis Matthaiopoulos was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
For former MPs found guilty of membership in a criminal organization, sentences ranged from five to seven years. Based on this part of the ruling, Eleni Zaroulia may also face imprisonment. Lawyers are currently attempting to prevent those facing jail from being incarcerated.
However, none of the 42 convicted individuals in the Golden Dawn case were present in the courtroom to hear the final verdict of the Court of Appeal. The only exception was Ioannis Lagos, who attended the hearing.
The appellate court also upheld the first-instance conviction of Giorgos Roupakias, the murderer of Pavlos Fyssas, sentencing him to life imprisonment plus 10 years. The decision was received with satisfaction by Fyssas’s mother, Magda Fyssas, who was present in the courtroom.
