After 10 months of treatment, a turtle that had been deliberately injured in the head has survived and is returning to the sea.
The turtle arrived in May 2024 at a rescue center of Archelon with a severe and intentional head injury. Rescuers named it “Everest” due to its remarkable size and strength, noting that it is one of the largest sea turtles ever treated at the center.
According to the announcement, “after countless hours of care, treatment, and perseverance, ‘Everest’ made a full recovery” and “is finally ready to return to its natural environment.”
Before its release, final measurements were taken and a special tracking tag was placed on Everest at the rescue center. These confirmed that the name truly fits—the turtle weighs 105 kilograms.
“We can’t wait to see him back where he belongs,” the organization concluded.
