Alternate Revenue Minister Dimitris Mardas – the man responsible for ensuring that Greek coffers have enough money for the country to meet its needs – was named by Bild as the man that northern Greek newspapers had been refering to regarding an 80,000-euro deposit in Luxembourg in March. The Greek articles appeared at Thessaloniki and Makedonia newspapers, however neither named the minister due to the privacy of bank data, however German tabloid Bild went ahead and pointed the finger.
The German newspaper states that the new Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has had a disappointing performance with his politics whereas members of the government appear to be losing their confidence. Bild writes that Mardas is an Alt. Minister in the department of Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, who risks a Grexit in negotiations with European creditors. The newspaper speculates if Mardas had inside information concerning the course of negotiations that led him to lose trust in Greek banks and take his money abroad.
On his part, Mardas refused to answer Bild’s questions.
