Sunday’s “semi-bluff” of not paying the IMF on Tuesday if a positive statement by the Eurogroup wasn’t produced on Monday proved tootless, as the Greek government officially announced earlier in the afternoon that it was forking over 750 mln euros to the Fund before the latter meeting ended.

Athens desperately wants a positive statement by the Eurogroup, preferably referring to “progress” towards a deal with its creditors in order to allow the ECB leeway to boost the liquidity limit for Greek banks.

Earlier in Brussels, Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis more-or-less said his radical leftist government would toe the line vis-à-vis the IMF, echoing the Greek government spokesman comment that the Eurogroup conclusion would not be linked to the IMF repayment.

With the IMF responsibility now out of the way, a government source later stated that the government also has enough cash on hand to pay state salaries and pensions at the end of the month.
