Pakistan is still awaiting an official response from Iran regarding the confirmation of sending a delegation to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said in a post on X.
“The decision by Iran to join the talks before the expiry of the two-week ceasefire is critical,” Tarar wrote, adding that Pakistan has made sincere efforts to persuade the Iranian leadership to take part in the second round of negotiations.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office also urged both the United States and Iran to extend the two-week ceasefire. During a meeting with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie A. Baker, Foreign Secretary Ishaq Dar stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries and said Pakistan has encouraged both sides to consider extending the ceasefire, according to a Foreign Office statement.
