AHI Releases 2026 Policy Statements Emphasizing U.S. Partnerships in the Eastern Mediterranean

New report highlights Greece and Cyprus as key strategic allies amid shifting geopolitical dynamics

Newsroom April 22 04:49

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) has released its 2026 Policy Statements, outlining its positions on major U.S. foreign policy priorities and reaffirming the strategic importance of Washington’s partnerships with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving geopolitical landscape in the Eastern Mediterranean, emphasizing the role of Greece and Cyprus as stable and democratic partners that advance U.S. security, energy, and economic interests. It also addresses ongoing regional challenges, including what AHI describes as destabilizing actions by Türkiye.

Particular attention is given to the importance of the “3+1” Eastern Mediterranean partnership framework, which brings together the United States, Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, as a pillar of regional cooperation and stability. The report further underscores the need to uphold human rights and religious freedom, including protections for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

A new addition to this year’s publication is the inclusion of strategic partnership fact sheets, offering concise and accessible summaries for policymakers and stakeholders. These include:

  • The United States & Greece Strategic Partnership
  • The United States & the Republic of Cyprus Strategic Partnership

The fact sheets are designed to serve as practical tools for advocates and decision-makers, presenting key policy priorities and recommendations in a clear format.

“AHI’s 2026 Policy Statements reflect both the challenges and opportunities facing the United States in the Eastern Mediterranean,” said Nick Larigakis, president of AHI. “All of our policy positions and recommendations are made in the best interests of the United States. We encourage our audience to share the statements widely.”
