Crete, one of Greece’s leading tourism destinations, has officially welcomed Ikos Kissamos, a new five-star resort by Sani/Ikos Group and the Group’s 13th beachfront property in the Mediterranean. Developed in line with its strategic expansion plan and backed by an investment exceeding €220 million, the resort marks the largest luxury hospitality investment on the island to date, significantly strengthening Western Crete’s tourism infrastructure and enhancing its global competitiveness.

Set along 600 metres of beachfront on the historic Gulf of Kissamos, Ikos Kissamos unfolds across 53 acres, offering 420 rooms, suites and bungalows designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape and local architectural identity. The resort is structured across four distinct zones—the Main Village, River Village, Dunes Village and Sea Village—creating a layered experience that remains closely connected to nature. The latter two form the Deluxe Collection, offering elevated services and private pools, while the entire development has been designed in line with LEED Gold sustainability standards, setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible luxury hospitality.

At the heart of Ikos Kissamos lies the Group’s signature hospitality concept, which blends refined gastronomy, personalised five-star service and elegant European design with the warmth of Greek hospitality. This philosophy is reflected throughout the resort’s facilities, which include seven restaurants, three open-air bars, eight swimming pools, a spa and wellness centre, sports amenities and a fully integrated family offering.

The culinary experience is a defining element of the resort, deeply rooted in Cretan tradition while embracing global influences. More than 70% of ingredients are sourced locally, highlighting the island’s rich agricultural heritage. At Kriti, the resort’s dedicated Cretan restaurant, traditional recipes are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, offering a refined expression of local cuisine. International flavours are equally present, with Asian cuisine at Anaya, Italian gastronomy curated by Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini at Fresco, French Riviera inspiration at La Plage and Latin American influences at Azul, all built around a philosophy of fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Beyond the resort, Western Crete reveals a landscape of striking contrasts and exceptional natural beauty. Through the Local Discovery programme, guests can explore the region sustainably using an electric Mini Countryman, discovering iconic destinations such as Gramvousa, Falassarna and Balos Lagoon, the latter two ranked among the world’s best beaches in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards 2026. Further afield, locations such as Elafonissi Beach, Kedrodasos and the historic Chania Old Town offer a rich blend of natural and cultural experiences, complemented by landmarks like the Archaeological Museum of Kissamos and the dramatic Samaria Gorge.

Sustainability is central to the resort’s operation. As part of the Ikos Green ESG programme, Ikos Kissamos is powered by 100% renewable electricity, has eliminated single-use plastics and implements advanced waste management practices including recycling, composting and the conversion of organic waste into biogas. The resort also uses innovative water reuse systems and artificial intelligence technologies to reduce food waste, while actively supporting local biodiversity initiatives.

The investment also delivers a tangible economic impact. More than 720 direct jobs have been created during construction and operation, with a strong emphasis on local employment and partnerships with producers and suppliers across Crete. At the same time, the resort maintains an active social contribution programme, supporting local communities, cultural initiatives and essential infrastructure, including recent donations to the Kissamos Health Centre.

Ikos Kissamos forms part of Sani/Ikos Group’s broader investment strategy exceeding €1 billion for the expansion of the Ikos brand across the Mediterranean. New resorts are already underway in Halkidiki, Algarve and Marbella, expected to open by 2029 and expand the Group’s total capacity to 6,000 rooms.

With its combination of scale, sustainability and refined hospitality, Ikos Kissamos not only redefines luxury tourism in Crete but also positions Western Crete as a destination of growing international significance.
