Konstantinos Tasoulas visited the Evros Delta National Park as part of his trip to Alexandroupoli, touring the estuaries of the Evros River aboard a military vessel.

The President of the Republic was welcomed by the Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, the Commander of the XII Motorized Infantry Division “Evros,” Major General Pavlos Andrikopoulos, the Commander of the 31st Motorized Brigade, Brigadier General Sotiris Tsiatsianis, the General Police Director of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Brigadier General Lambros Tsiaras, as well as the president of the “Ainisio Delta” Association, Nikos Mousounakis.

During his visit, Mr. Tasoulas was informed about the importance of the protected ecosystem of the Evros Delta, which is considered one of the most important wetlands and habitats in Europe, hosting rare species of flora and fauna.

Immediately afterward, he made the following statement:

“A visit here to the Evros Delta fills you with admiration. Admiration for the unparalleled beauty of nature, of this unique and priceless wetland.

But also admiration for the dynamism of our people living on the borderlands. All those tasked with protecting our borders. The Hellenic Army, the Hellenic Police, but also private citizens who fish in the Evros Delta, keep their eyes open every day in order to protect this invaluable region.

As a state, we are determined to safeguard this ecological treasure, which at the same time also constitutes our country’s eastern frontier. And there is absolutely no possibility that this eastern border of our country, toward Turkey, will escape our attention, our interest, or our surveillance.

Greece’s borders are in good hands. And no one — absolutely no one — can challenge them. We proved that during the February–March 2020 crisis. And we are certain that whenever necessary again, we will prove it just as effectively.”
