Police officers handling the case are trying to determine the exact circumstances under which the tragedy unfolded in Holargos on Monday night, when a 57-year-old man first shot and injured his 53-year-old wife in the leg and then took his own life.
According to a local resident who spoke to Orange Press, shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday a gunshot was heard, followed by a voice shouting “help,” and immediately afterward a second gunshot.
Based on the picture formed so far of what happened on Xanthiou Street, the 57-year-old shot the 53-year-old woman in the leg and then reportedly went up to the apartment where they lived on the third floor of the apartment building and committed suicide, with police locating his body and a gun next to it.
Police were reportedly called by a neighbor who heard the gunshot, while the man was found with a bullet wound to the head.
The woman survived the shooting and a tourniquet was applied to the wound to stop the bleeding. She was taken by ambulance to G. Gennimatas General Hospital.
