The heatwave affecting Western Europe is only marginally influencing Greece, according to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias (protothema.gr). It has caused a rise in temperatures, but in Greece the heat remains mild rather than extreme. In addition, the weather outlook for the Holy Spirit long weekend continues to be favorable.
More specifically:
For today, Thursday 28 May 2026, during the midday and afternoon hours, temporary rain showers or thunderstorms will occur in mainland areas, mainly in mountainous regions.
The maximum temperature will reach 33, possibly 34°C, mainly in central and northern Greece, while in island regions it will reach around 28°C.
Winds will blow from the north–northwest and reach up to 5 Beaufort in the seas.
In Athens, the weather will initially be clear. From midday onward, cloud development is expected with local showers, mainly in northern and mountainous areas. Winds will blow from the south up to 4 Beaufort, and temperatures will range from 18 to 31°C.
In Thessaloniki, rain and local thunderstorms are expected at midday and in the afternoon. Winds in the Thermaic Gulf will be light to moderate, while temperatures will reach 32°C.
On Friday, instability will be limited mainly to Central Greece, the Peloponnese, and Crete, with showers and thunderstorms mainly during the warm hours of the day.
The Holy Spirit long weekend is expected to bring good weather conditions for excursions, both in the mountains and by the sea, with temperatures exceeding 30°C in several regions.
