The Champions League final in Budapest ended 1-1 after extra time, with Paris Saint-Germain lifting the trophy after a dramatic shootout.

Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions of Europe for the second consecutive year, defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Champions League final in Budapest.

The final at the Puskás Aréna had all the tension of a night where both clubs were chasing history. Arsenal were seeking the first Champions League title in their history, 20 years after their previous appearance in the final, while PSG were trying to defend the crown they won last season.

The London side made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening minutes through Kai Havertz. The German striker punished a defensive mistake by Marquinhos and gave Mikel Arteta’s team an early advantage.

Arsenal then produced a highly disciplined defensive display for much of the match, keeping PSG’s attacking line under control and forcing Luis Enrique’s side to search for answers.

The French champions eventually found their way back into the game from the penalty spot. Ousmane Dembélé converted after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought down by Cristhian Mosquera, making it 1-1 and sending the final into a tense closing stretch.

Extra time failed to separate the two sides, with the trophy ultimately decided from the spot.
