Former finance minister Papaconstantinou’s relatives released without conditions

They are facing moral instigation charges for actions committed by the former finance minister.

Newsroom June 13 05:38

Three relatives of former finance minister George Papaconstantinou were released without conditions after testifying before Supreme Court special examining magistrate Iossif Tsalaganidis on Friday, in connection with the so-called Lagarde list. This was a list of Greeks with large bank accounts at Switzerland’s HSBC bank, who are being audited for income tax liabilities.

Papaconstantinou’s cousin Eleni, her husband Simeon Sikiaridis and Andreas Rossonis, husband of the former minister’s cousin Marina Papaconstantinou, appeared before the examining magistrate in secrecy. All three submitted a memo in addition to their testimony that lasted roughly two-and-a-half hours.

Papaconstantinou’s relatives are facing moral instigation charges for actions committed by the former finance minister. Paoaconstantinou faces felony and misdemeanour charges of dereliction of duty while a minister (2009-2011), that include doctoring a document, as well as breach of faith over his handling of the Lagarde list, as he is charged with removing from the list the names of his relatives.

It should be noted that Papaconstantinou testified on Thursday and was released after posting a 30,000-euro bail with the condition to report to a police station once a month.
