Traffic restrictions will be in place today, Tuesday, June 23, in parts of Athens and Kallithea for the 10 km, 6 km and 1,000 m Special Olympics races being held as part of Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Nostos Run 2026.
According to the Hellenic Police, traffic will be gradually suspended from 8.30 pm until the end of the event. Stopping and parking will also be banned from 6 am until the end of the race on a long list of streets and avenues in the municipalities of Athens and Kallithea.
The restrictions will affect major roads including Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, Vasileos Konstantinou Avenue, Ardittou, Rizari, Vasilissis Amalias Avenue, Syngrou Avenue, Kallirois, Filellinon, Stadiou, Akadimias, Herodou Attikou and streets around Syntagma Square.
On sections of Syngrou Avenue and several roads in Kallithea, including Herakleous, Demosthenous, Tagmatarchou Plessa, Doiranis and Evripidou, stopping and parking bans and gradual traffic suspensions will apply mainly between 7 pm and 11 pm.
Vehicles will also be banned from crossing the race route perpendicularly while road sections are closed, except at controlled intersections at Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and Rigillis Street, and Vasileos Konstantinou Avenue and Vasileos Georgiou II Street.
Drivers heading from Syngrou Avenue towards central Athens are advised to use Kallirois, Amvrosiou Frantzi, Karpou, Filolaou and Ymittou, or to continue via Vouliagmenis Avenue, Vyronas and the Katechaki ring road.
Drivers travelling from Mesogeion Avenue or Kifissias Avenue towards central Athens are advised to use Feidippidou Street and Alexandras Avenue, with routes continuing via Exarchia or Patisia.
The Hellenic Police has urged motorists to avoid the affected streets and avenues, follow alternative routes where possible and comply with the instructions of traffic officers in order to reduce congestion.
