Panteion University has announced a new academic collaboration with the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University, one of the world’s leading centers for East Asian studies.
The partnership represents a significant step forward in Panteion’s internationalization efforts and enhances its involvement in top international academic networks.
More specifically, it brings together the Department of International and European Studies of Panteion University—the oldest international relations department in Greece—and Columbia University, creating new opportunities for cooperation in research, teaching, and international academic mobility.
Know China. Know the World.
The first outcome of this collaboration is the new English-language master’s program, MSc Global China, developed by the Department of International and European Studies at Panteion University. The program aims to equip students with the analytical tools needed to understand the global political, economic, and geopolitical developments of the 21st century through the study of contemporary China.
The partnership also creates new academic pathways for students enrolled in the program, as top graduates will have the opportunity to compete for tuition scholarships to continue their studies at Columbia University.
At the same time, the two institutions are planning joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, conferences, and summer schools, further expanding opportunities for international collaboration for both students and faculty members.
Through this partnership, Panteion University is investing in an academic vision that strengthens the international presence of Greece’s public universities and connects Greece with some of the most important academic and geopolitical discussions of our time.
Launch Timeline
The program is scheduled to begin in the 2027–2028 academic year, following the completion of quality assurance procedures and all required approvals.
The project is being implemented within the framework of Greece’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, with funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU initiative.
