The Hellenic Initiative (THI) has announced the return of the THI Summer Youth Academy for a third consecutive year, continuing its mission to provide meaningful opportunities to young people from underserved communities across Athens.

The free summer program, which will run from July 6 to July 31 at Leonteios School, is expected to welcome more than 100 children and teenagers aged 10 to 17 for a month-long experience that combines sports, education and personal development.

Designed specifically for youth from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds, the Academy offers participants daily basketball training alongside workshops focused on leadership, teamwork, communication skills and personal growth. Organizers say the goal is to provide access to experienced coaches, mentors and positive role models while fostering confidence, discipline and social inclusion.

The program is open to all skill levels, with no prior basketball experience required, and participation remains completely free of charge. The Academy will be held in two separate two-week sessions, operating Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Two years in, we have seen first-hand what this program does for the children,” said Nikos Stathopoulos, THI Board Member and Chairman of the THI Summer Youth Academy. “It builds confidence, it creates friendships, and it opens doors. We are proud to bring it back for a third year and to keep deepening its impact across Greek society.”

Since its launch, the THI Summer Youth Academy has sought to create a supportive environment where young participants can develop both athletic and life skills, helping them build a stronger foundation for the future.

The 2026 edition of the Academy is made possible through the support of The Hellenic Initiative, Novibet, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, AVIN and Piraeus Bank. Their contributions ensure that the program remains free for all participants while continuing to expand its reach and quality.

“The most telling measure of this program’s impact is how eagerly children return,” said George P. Stamas, THI Co-Founder and Board President. “Year after year, the Academy is proving that when you invest in Greece’s youth with genuine care and quality programming, the results speak for themselves. We are grateful to every sponsor and partner who makes this possible.”

As the Academy enters its third year, organizers hope to continue empowering young people through sport, mentorship and education, providing opportunities that extend far beyond the basketball court.
