The F-16 that had made an emergency landing last Thursday, July 8, was loaded onto the ferry Kefalonia at the port of Zakynthos shortly before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, leaving the island six days after the incident.
According to Imerazante.gr, a large team had arrived on the island last Thursday and had already removed the aircraft from the airport’s runway on the same day, in a process that lasted several hours.
The aircraft was eventually dismantled, with its wings removed, and in the early hours of Wednesday it was transported from Zakynthos Airport to the island’s port, escorted by police, the Port Authority, senior officers of the Hellenic Air Force, as well as representatives of the municipal authorities and the Civil Protection Department. It departed on the ferry Kefalonia.

It is recalled that the F-16 pilot carried out an emergency landing at Zakynthos Airport last Thursday after the aircraft developed a mechanical fault.

The pilot followed all safety procedures to the letter and with complete success. Specifically, the pilot emptied the aircraft’s fuel tanks and landed the aircraft safely, saving it without using its landing gear.
