US Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to the murder of Vagia Nestora, along with other cases involving victims of terrorists and extremists, during a special conference organised by the US State Department on the resurgence of political terrorism, attended by representatives from 65 countries.
During his address, the US Secretary of State said:
“You are here because two weeks ago a 72-year-old woman was burned over 80% of her body in her own home in Greece. She died after a firebomb attack because her daughter dared to run for office.”

He then went on to cite additional examples.
“Far-left political terrorism is not some new invention or conservative talking point. For most of the modern era it was the dominant form of political violence.”
“You are here because Berlin suffered its longest blackout since World War II this winter. An attack left tens of thousands without power in the freezing cold and killed an 83-year-old woman.”
“You are here because a month later a 23-year-old in Lyon died from traumatic brain injuries after far-left militants beat him to death on the street.”
“You are here because your leaders are stabbed and shot, your businesses bombed, your railways sabotaged, and your police beaten and burned.”
The US Secretary of State concluded by saying:
“This evil is real. It is getting worse. We can no longer deny or ignore it. It is time to crush it forever. We must stand strong against this rising threat. America First means rejecting all political violence.”
