The Eurogroup is forwarding Greece’s request to the Institutions, according to statements made by Pierre Moscovici and Jeroen Dijsselbloem at the press conference following the Eurogroup meeting.
Even though there was no deal, the press conference speakers made mention of a “brief meeting” (it lasted about 90 minutes), due to the fact that Greek proposals were sent late last night, which prevented an in-depth look.
Dijsselbloem stated that the Eurogroup requested that the Institutions work closely with the Greek government in order to delve deeper into the details of the proposal and thus to make progress towards a final agreement by the end of the week based on said proposal.
He stated that Greece’s proposals are up to par as a whole, but more work is expected to be carried out in its details in order to completely cover the fiscal issues.
He expressed his hope for a deal by week’s end.
On his part, European Commissioner Moscovici stated that the Greek proposals were “late” but seem to be a good basis for further deliberations in the following days.
