New Democracy (ND) leader and former PM Antonis Samaras launched an attack against Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras following the latter’s decision to call a referendum an hour or so after midnight on Saturday. Samaras’ statement underlined that “Mr. Tsipras brought the country at a complete impasse, between an unacceptable agreement and the exit from Europe”.
According to the conservative leader, the “unacceptable agreement of the institutions has slight differences with the one he (Tsipras) proposed a few days ago”.
“The European identity is Greece’s conquest and New Democracy obviously supports democracy and Europe … It supports Greece’s European prospect because whatever other positions would be disastrous for our country.”
Samaras also called Tsipras “fatal, weak and irresponsible” and accused him that he isolated the country from Europe and is dividing the Greek people.
