Five incendiary devices spread terror outside a reception hall in Birmingham when three men attacked a venue where an Islamic wedding event was taking place, while also setting fire to two luxury cars.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday outside the Royal Shalimar hall, on Highgate Road, in the Sparkbrook area. Despite the seriousness of the attack, no injuries were reported, although the incendiary devices are said to have passed very close to people who were outside the building.

Footage circulating on social media shows guests fleeing the hall in panic, while two supercars, reportedly a Lamborghini and a McLaren, were engulfed in flames. Thick smoke was rising from the vehicles.

West Midlands Police announced that it has launched an investigation into the attack, while examining footage from security cameras and taking statements from eyewitnesses.

According to information reported by the British media, three men, all dressed in black, had been captured on security cameras outside the venue before the attack.

One of the suspects is said to have lit three incendiary devices and then thrown them toward the Royal Shalimar building. One of them struck the front of the hall, where hundreds of people were at the time.

One of the three men then crossed the road and threw two more lit incendiary devices toward the two supercars parked outside the venue.

The two cars caught fire, with images from the scene showing the flames and clouds of smoke.

Particularly alarming was the fact that the incendiary devices are said to have passed very close to young guests and a baby who were outside the hall. One of those present reportedly kicked one of the devices away so that it would not roll underneath one of the cars.

The venue’s staff reacted immediately, using fire extinguishers to contain the flames before firefighters and police arrived at the scene.

After the attack, the three suspects reportedly ran toward Mole Street, where they got into a white Volkswagen Golf and drove away from the area.

West Midlands Police said that the investigation is ongoing and that security-camera footage is being examined, while officers are speaking with eyewitnesses. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported,” a police spokesperson said.

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed that it was called to Highgate Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. following the deliberate setting alight of the two vehicles.

A fire engine from Highgate station was dispatched to the scene. Firefighters tackled the blaze and made one of the vehicles safe.

No one was trapped and no one was injured, according to the fire service, while police officers also remained at the scene. Fire crews left the scene at 9:07 p.m.
