The 43-year-old defendant in the grim Kypseli case appeared before Athens’ fast-track Single-Member Misdemeanours Court today, to stand trial for attempted assault on multiple counts, insulting behaviour, making threats, criminal damage to property, violence against officers, and attempted escape from custody.

According to reports, these charges were brought against the 43-year-old following an incident during his transfer to the courts after his arrest.

Today, however, the 43-year-old’s trial on these charges was adjourned by the fast-track court until 5 October, due to his lawyer being unavailable.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old, the 38-year-old German woman, and the young Afghan man are due to appear before the investigating magistrate again tomorrow, following the serious criminal charges brought against them yesterday.

Specifically, the 43-year-old and the 38-year-old German woman are being prosecuted for the murder of the infant found inside a suitcase, in a flat on Thasou Street in Kypseli, a district of central Athens.

In particular, criminal proceedings were brought against the two defendants for the murder of a family member, committed jointly, illegal possession and use of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, also committed jointly, and false testimony, charged both as a continuing offence and as a single count.

Criminal proceedings were also brought against the 26-year-old Afghan man, who also lived at the property in Kypseli and is reported to have been in a relationship with the 38-year-old woman’s minor daughter, who is pregnant. Specifically, the 26-year-old is being prosecuted for sexual acts with a minor, committed both before and after she turned 12, as well as false testimony and possession of ammunition.

The three defendants are expected to appear before the investigating magistrate tomorrow over this case file, and have the right to request and be granted time to prepare their defence statements.

German woman claims baby found frozen in Kypseli is her own

The children knew the dead infant was in the freezer

According to police sources, the children said the only thing they knew was that the baby had died and was in the freezer, without having any further insight into the circumstances under which the incident occurred.

Authorities are seriously considering the possibility that the children were not in the house at the time of the murder.

At the same time, however, the conduct of the family’s daughter remains under close scrutiny by the authorities, as police believe she knows more than she has revealed to them.
