British-Lebanese international law barrister and human rights advocate Amal Alamuddin Clooney was received today at the Presidential Mansion by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, during her visit to Athens for the Meeting of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors.

Clooney’s visit to Athens follows an invitation from the newly appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Protection and Promotion of Culture, Konstantza Sbokou Konstantakopoulou. The two women will hold a discussion at 18:00 this evening at a closed event at the Columns of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, on the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Culture,” which Tasoulas will also attend.

It is worth noting that Tasoulas and Clooney have met once before, in 2014, when he was serving as Minister of Culture. At the time, he had asked the London law firm where Clooney worked to prepare a study on the legal aspects of reclaiming and repatriating the Parthenon Marbles.

At 14:00, Tasoulas will also meet at the Presidential Mansion with the Director-General of UNESCO, Egyptian archaeologist and former minister Khaled El-Enany. El-Enany was elected in November 2025 for a four-year term, succeeding Audrey Azoulay.

In the evening, at 20:30, an official dinner will follow at the Acropolis Museum, with a speech from Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, wife of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Proceeds from the event will go towards UNESCO’s Culture Fund, which aims to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods. It has not been ruled out that the Prime Minister himself will also attend the dinner.
