Swiss paper Neue Zurcher am Sonntag Zeitung says Greece is planning a tax amnesty for all Greeks who own Swiss bank accounts. The paper maintains that the country is considering this deal with the country’s wealthiest tax evaders out of desperation to find money to fill its coffers.
“Well-informed circles” says the paper that amnesty could be a way for tax evaders to declare their assets after Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis pledged to introduce legislation to encourage Greeks to reveal undeclared assets.
There are conflicting estimates as to how much Greek money has been smuggled to Swiss bank accounts – anything from 2 bln to 200 bn euros.
