Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has highlighted the improved standing of the Greek economy in international markets following the upgrades by Moody’s and Scope, describing them as confirmation of the economic policy being pursued and of the progress the country has made in recent years. In his post, he referred to fiscal stability, the reduction in public debt and the resilience of the Greek economy in an international environment marked by uncertainty.
His post in full:
“The new double upgrade of the outlook for the Greek economy by Moody’s and, at the same time, of the country’s credit rating by Scope, within a 24-hour period, confirms the soundness of the economic policy being pursued, together with the steady and continuous progress of our economy.
In an international environment of turmoil and uncertainty, Greece is now regarded by the very same rating agencies that, just a few years ago, described Greek bonds as ‘junk’ as an example of resilience, growth, reforms and a rapid reduction in public debt.
Yesterday’s upgrades confirm Greece’s standing as an island of political and economic stability and represent yet another piece in a national success. Those who insist on dismissing or cancelling it out are not doing an injustice to the government, but to the protagonists of this collective effort, who are the citizens themselves.
And this credibility and stability are the foundation for a better future with fewer burdens for our children, so that wages and incomes can rise, more and better jobs can be created, and the State’s ability to support households and businesses when necessary can be strengthened.
Greece is moving forward despite the stormy weather. With a plan, consistency, hope and results.”
