New information is emerging about the final hours of Giorgos Mazonakis, as authorities examine communications in and around the medical practice on Karneadou Street, reports of possible sedation, as well as the autopsy findings that are expected to be clarified by histological and toxicological tests.

The investigation into the death of the popular singer is now entering a new phase, as investigators attempt to reconstruct, minute by minute, what happened at the medical practice on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki, where Giorgos Mazonakis suffered cardiac arrest during a plasmapheresis procedure.

At the center of the investigation are new revelations concerning communications between doctor Ioanna Gaka and hypnotherapist Naso Komianos, as well as accounts from employees at the medical practice about what allegedly happened after the artist’s condition deteriorated.

At the same time, authorities are awaiting crucial answers from toxicological and histological tests, while the lifting of telephone confidentiality for the two doctors in pre-trial detention, Ioanna Gaka and her husband Ilias Theodoropoulos, is also expected to play an important role in the course of the investigation.

The two doctors have been remanded in custody over the death of Giorgos Mazonakis and remain at Korydallos Prison, while their defense disputes their involvement and puts forward its own version of events.

Reports of “sedation,” “defibrillator” and “adrenaline”

One of the new pieces of evidence being examined by authorities concerns what an employee of the medical practice allegedly heard during the critical hours.

According to information reported, the 28-year-old secretary at the practice allegedly said she heard words such as “sedation,” “defibrillator” and “adrenaline” coming from the clinic area.

According to the same reports, she had sent a message to a relative, in which she said: “Forget it. … gave him sedation”, a message that was subsequently allegedly deleted, according to Mega.

Authorities are examining whether Giorgos Mazonakis was indeed administered sedative substances before or during the procedure and whether this was connected to the deterioration of his condition.

The issue of possible sedation is one of the key points of the investigation, as toxicological tests are expected to show whether pharmaceutical substances, such as benzodiazepines or other sedative drugs, were present in his body and, if so, at what concentrations.

Plasmapheresis and questions surrounding the procedure

Authorities are also examining all the evidence surrounding the plasmapheresis procedure, as well as possible complications that could have been connected to the singer’s collapse.

Among the scenarios being examined are the possibility of thrombosis, air embolism through the system, as well as possible problems associated with the administration of fluids.

According to the evidence available so far, no thrombosis was initially detected during the autopsy; however, all the findings are expected to be assessed once the laboratory tests have been completed.

A crucial question is also whether Giorgos Mazonakis’ condition before the medical procedure was such that a different course of treatment was required.

Another point under scrutiny by authorities concerns the condition Giorgos Mazonakis was in before arriving at the medical practice.

The medical practice is said to have described a picture of intense or extreme agitation, while other accounts from people who had come into contact with him shortly beforehand present a different picture.

Specifically, a pharmacist, a taxi driver and a parking-lot owner are said to have described a man who was behaving normally before arriving at the clinic.

This discrepancy is being investigated, as authorities examine whether the description of his condition influenced the decisions that were subsequently made.

The finding of myocardial ischemia

The autopsy findings are also considered particularly significant. According to the information made public, relatively extensive ischemia was detected in the interventricular myocardium, the muscular tissue between the two ventricles of the heart.

The histological examination is expected to determine whether this alteration is associated with an acute myocardial infarction and, if so, when it occurred.

Establishing the timing of a possible cardiac episode is considered crucial, as it will have to be correlated with the sequence of medical procedures and the singer’s condition before, during and after plasmapheresis.

Until now, it had not been known that Giorgos Mazonakis had a history of heart disease or coronary artery disease.

The Gaka–Komianos collaboration and the photograph from the medical practice

The relationship between Ioanna Gaka and hypnotherapist Naso Komianos is also under scrutiny in the investigation. Komianos testified before the investigating magistrate about their professional collaboration, as well as about the contact he had with Giorgos Mazonakis a few days before his death.

He allegedly said that he had met the singer only once, two days before the fatal incident, and that he had not previously known him personally.

The meeting took place at a restaurant in Psychiko and, according to the information, was also attended by Giorgos Mazonakis’ manager and a 55-year-old businessman.

During the discussion, the hypnotherapist allegedly linked the hypnosis session to the prior completion of a “detox” procedure, without it having been fully clarified what exactly the term referred to.

Subsequently, according to the evidence being examined by authorities, Giorgos Mazonakis was taken to the clinic on Karneadou Street to undergo plasmapheresis.

According to information that has emerged, the singer initially had second thoughts about the procedure and had expressed reservations, as he was reportedly even considering having the plasmapheresis performed abroad.

As part of these discussions, Ioanna Gaka allegedly contacted the hypnotherapist, who, according to reports, wrote to her: “Leave it to me, I’ll straighten him out,” referring to the effort to persuade the singer to go ahead with the procedure.

The three-page agreement and patient referrals

Authorities are also examining the professional relationship that Naso Komianos had developed with Ioanna Gaka and Ilias Theodoropoulos.

According to information, a three-page cooperation agreement is at the center of the investigation. It provided for mutual referrals of clients as well as the possibility of using the couple’s second medical practice on Patriarchou Ioakeim Street.

The agreement, which was allegedly signed approximately one year earlier, is described as a collaboration between professionals from different fields.

Under its terms, the hypnotherapist allegedly paid €40 for each patient referred to him by the doctors, while a corresponding fee was provided for referrals of patients in the other direction.

At the same time, Naso Komianos allegedly had the option of using the premises on Patriarchou Ioakeim for sessions with his own clients or with people referred to him by the doctor.

The way in which this collaboration is connected to Giorgos Mazonakis’ visits and the interventions he underwent is the subject of the judicial investigation.

Another piece of evidence being examined by authorities concerns a photograph that Ioanna Gaka allegedly sent to the hypnotherapist during the procedure. The photograph shows Giorgos Mazonakis in the plasmapheresis chair, with his eyes closed and intravenous catheters in both arms.

According to information, the photograph had been deleted from the doctor’s mobile phone, but authorities managed to recover it.

Investigators are examining whether there were other communications between the doctor and the hypnotherapist or other people during the critical period before and after the singer’s collapse.

The 28-year-old secretary’s testimony and the defense’s version

The new testimony of the 28-year-old secretary at the medical practice on Karneadou Street is expected to play an important role in the development of the case.

The young woman had already testified twice during the preliminary investigation and was summoned again by the 32nd regular investigating magistrate, this time following a request from the defense of the two doctors in pre-trial detention.

According to the defense of Ioanna Gaka and Ilias Theodoropoulos, her testimony is considered important because it may clarify what happened at the medical practice during the critical hours.

According to the defense’s version, the 28-year-old is expected to testify that at 3:30 p.m. Giorgos Mazonakis was already at the medical practice when a patient with a scheduled appointment with Ilias Theodoropoulos arrived.

According to the same version, before the patient arrived, the doctor was in his office, where he had lain down on the sofa and fallen asleep.

He then, according to his side’s account, remained with his patient until around 4:10 p.m. and also proceeded to prescribe medical tests.

According to a document submitted to the investigating magistrate by the doctor, the prescription was issued at 4:06 p.m.

This testimony is being used by Ilias Theodoropoulos’ side, as he maintains that he was not involved in the plasmapheresis procedure and was not present when the singer collapsed.

Contradictions in the testimonies and next steps

The testimonies of the medical practice employees remain at the center of the investigation, as, according to the Hellenic Police, contradictions have been identified, mainly concerning the timing of events.

The 28-year-old secretary initially stated that Giorgos Mazonakis arrived at the medical practice at around 3:30 p.m., while other evidence from the investigation indicated a different arrival time, shortly before 2 p.m.

According to information, she initially insisted on her version, while in her new testimony she provided details that the defense considers to strengthen Ilias Theodoropoulos’ position.

According to the authorities, other employees of the medical practice are also expected to be called to testify in order to clarify the sequence of events.

Request for release with an electronic monitoring bracelet

At the same time, the next legal moves of the two doctors in pre-trial detention are being considered.

Their defense has the option of appealing to the Judicial Council of Misdemeanors against the pre-trial detention warrants.

However, according to information, Ilias Theodoropoulos is considering taking a different course and directly submitting a request to the investigating magistrate to replace his pre-trial detention with house arrest and electronic monitoring (an “ankle bracelet”).

According to information, the detained doctor has remained calmer in recent days, spending much of his time reading and watching television, while avoiding leaving his cell.

The investigation is continuing, with the results of the histological and toxicological tests considered crucial to establishing the full picture of Giorgos Mazonakis’ final hours.
