French authorities arrested a 15-year-old who attacked a woman with a homemade flamethrower during the so-called “student demonstrations” in France.
As shown in the video of the attack in Marseille, the hooded 15-year-old approaches the woman, who was asking the protesters to stop the vandalism, and, using an aerosol spray and a lighter, shoots a flame to her face.
A short time earlier, the woman had been pushed by other young people onto a bus shelter as she tried to stop them from using a protective railing.
The 15-year-old was arrested on Friday evening, while, according to Le Parisien, the woman who was attacked suffered first-degree burns.
500 schools to close today
As Education Minister Édouard Zéphyr announced, classes will be fully or partially suspended today, Monday, at 400 to 500 high schools, as “the safety conditions are not being met” there.
According to the minister, since the start of the protests, 24 schools have been set on fire or suffered extensive vandalism, while 78 education workers have been injured.
The problem is particularly acute in Île-de-France, where more than 160 high schools are expected to remain closed on Monday—a figure corresponding to more than one-third of the region’s schools, according to its president, Valérie Pécresse.
More than 5,000 arrests in one week
The riots began in the Paris area in mid-September and quickly spread to many cities, including Marseille, Nantes and Montpellier.
They quite quickly lost their character as they were taken over by second and third-generation immigrants along with illegal immigrants and the incitement of left-wing parties turned France into a battleground.
On Friday alone, 735 schools were affected, while 1,747 arrests were made, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. The total number of arrests since the beginning of the week exceeded 5,000, with approximately 85% of those arrested being minors.
That same day, incidents or “urban violence” were recorded around 158 schools.
The failure of multiculturalism
The demonstrations show in no uncertain terms the failure of what had been served by the majority of political partiers in Europe as the future of the western societies. For years multiculturalism and the facilitation of unchecked illegal immigration was portrayed as the model which every country one way or another had to follow.
The current riots in France, along with similar problems in almost every European country, demonstrate that the more skeptical and conservative voices were correct. Those voices had warned of the cultural incompatibility between the Western value system and the culture that illegal immigrants were bringing to Europe, as well as of their unwillingness to adapt to the European mentality.
