The National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) is celebrating winning the European Museum Award 2026 by offering the public three days of free admission to all its exhibitions and activities, from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October.
The award is presented by the European Museum Academy and recognises museums that connect art with contemporary social, political and cultural issues. EMST was honoured for its pioneering curatorial approach, bold exhibition programme and sustained efforts to serve as a space open to society, fostering critical thinking and highlighting issues relating to politics, history and the environment.
The Greek museum was one of six finalists for the distinction, competing alongside leading European institutions such as the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the FENIX Museum of Migration in Rotterdam.
To mark the award, EMST is inviting visitors to explore its galleries free of charge, discover its exhibitions and collection, or revisit favourite works of art. The initiative offers an opportunity both for regular visitors and for those wishing to discover one of Athens’ most important contemporary art institutions for the first time.
