Mr. Mitsotakis focused mainly on three key reforms made lately in Greek public administration: The ministries’ structural reorganization, with an approximately 40 percent downsizing, new organization charts submitted for approval to the State Council, the simplification of administrative procedures through the cutting down on red tape and enhancement of the role of the Citizens’ Service Centres, and the proper use of human resources, citing as an example a bill which will possibly be tabled in Parliament on Friday regarding the new hiring method of managers in the public sector.
He also referred to the significant reduction of the wage costs in the public sector since 2010, which is estimated at 35 percent or 8 billion euros. At the same time, public sector employees have been reduced by 250,000 people.
