The luxurious yacht of the former Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose love for the Ionian islands is widely known, arrived once more to the sapphire waters of the Ionian Sea.
The first stop of his tour of the Ionian islands was Corfu, where he had the chance to enjoy his afternoon coffee at Liston, while enjoying the melodic serenades sung by local singers.
The Emir’s yacht “Katara” is one of the World’s largest yachts and cost the Emir $ 900 million (640 million euros). Her main deck saloon has a height of two decks. The yacht has a length of 124 meters (408 ft), making her the 14th largest yacht in the world, although measured by volume, she would rank much higher.
Every year, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, goes on a mini cruise around the Ionian Sea, before arriving at Oxia, a small island which he bought for 5.600.00 euros. The former Emir wants to transform this beautiful corner of the Ionian Sea into a Greek version of Capri island, that will include villages with different types of housing, hospitality and recreational areas, cultural sites and coastal zone with marine installations.
