One of the first opinion poll to see the light of day since snap elections appeared as a more-or-less given gives ruling SYRIZA a lead of two percentage points over main opposition New Democracy party, 24 percent to 22 percent.
The poll was conducted for the firm Interview and commissioned by the provincial television channel Vergina.
Results from the poll show no less than nine (!) political parties entering Parliament after the coming election. A minimum of three percent of the general vote is needed to enter the Greek parliament.
The newly formed Popular Unity party, the left-wing breakaway from leftist SYRIZA, appears taking 4.5 percent of respondents’ preferences.
Ultra-nationalist Chryssi Avgi (Golden Dawn) posts 6 percent; centrist Potami 5.5; the Communist Party 4.5; PASOK, also at 4.5 percent, the same for the Popular Unity party; the Center Union party with 4 percent and the current coalition party, the Independent Greeks’ (AN.EL) barely holding on to 3 percent, the cut-off point.
The “undecided” vote was calculated at 15 percent of respondents; 5 percent of respondents favored another political party.
