Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang visited the archaeological site of Knossos, on the island of Crete, on Saturday morning, accompanied by his Greek counterpart Antonis Samaras, who arrived at the location shortly before 10 a.m. to welcome him.
The two prime ministers toured the Minoan palace, accompanied by Culture Minister Costas Tasoulas, Culture secretary general Lina Mendoni, Crete regional governor Stavros Arnaoutakis and local deputies.
After his visit to the archaeological site of Knossos with his Chinese counterpart, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras underlined that, in the following years, Crete will become one of the most popular destinations for Chinese travelers.
“The benefits deriving from the Chinese Prime Minister’s visit to Crete will become apparent a few years down the road, when thousands of tourists will be arriving to the island in droves. When the Chinese Prime Minister visits a place, this is huge news and the place is promoted far and wide. Thousands of Chinese nationals will want to visit the island where the Prime Minister has been. Crete will greatly benefit from this visit and you will see that in the immediate future,” said the prime minister.
Referring to the large investment of the airport in Kastelli, Antonis Samaras confirmed the interest of the Chinese leader for Kastelli airport, saying that they will talk in more detail about this subject in the coming days.
