A newborn baby girl, estimated to be just an hour old when she was abandoned, has been discovered in east London. This is the third child abandoned by the same parents in the last seven years, according to British police.
The baby, named Elsa, was found by a passer-by walking his dog one January evening near a busy area in Newham. DNA tests revealed that Elsa is the sister of two other children who were abandoned in similar circumstances in the same area.
Harry, the first baby, was found in a park in Newham in September 2017, and Roman, the second, was discovered by passers-by near a playground in January 2019.
The details of the case were made public on Tuesday (June 4, 2024) when an east London judge ruled that it was in the public interest to disclose the sibling connections among the three abandoned children, granting the BBC and PA Media permission to report on the matter.

According to the BBC, the older children have since been adopted, while Elsa, now in foster care, is in good health.
“We understand the significant public interest that will arise following the lifting of the restrictions allowing this information to be released,” said Police Inspector Jamie Hamm. “Our focus is on trying to find the mother and offer her support.”
The court also heard that plans are in place to inform the children of their sibling relationships and to facilitate some form of communication between them as they grow up, according to the BBC.
