‘American Sniper’ sparks outrage in Iraq

After tens of complaints from citizens and officials alike

Talk about landing in a mine field. Clint Eastwood’s blockbuster war biopic apparently hasn’t gone over too well with cinema-goers in Iraq.

According to a Washington Post dispatch from Baghdad, the war-torn city’s only functioning movie house has cancelled screenings after viewers and government officials expressed extreme outrage over what they called insulting depictions of Iraqis and inaccuracies. A ban is more than likely.

Bradley Cooper takes a break from romantic comedy in this film to play real-life US navy seal commando Chris Kyle. The Hollywood production has taken in $250 million in North America alone, while generating a cascade of controversy.
