Antonio Banderas is thrilled for his daughter, Stella, following the news that she got engaged to her longtime partner, Alex Gruzinski, whom she’s known since they were kids.
PEOPLE spoke with the actor on Sunday, September 1st, at the amfAR Gala in Venice, Italy, where he briefly touched on this significant development in Stella’s personal life.

“I feel great! She’s happy, I’m happy,” the 64-year-old actor said while attending the event.
Regarding his future son-in-law, Banderas commented, “He’s amazing. I’ve known him since he was a little boy.”
Stella’s mother, Melanie Griffith, revealed the joyful news on Instagram on August 20th.
Alongside several black-and-white photos of the couple, the 67-year-old actress briefly mentioned their journey from childhood friends to soon-to-be spouses.
“He asked… on one knee… she said yes! Stella and Alex are engaged and getting married,” Griffith wrote in the caption of her post. “Their love story started in kindergarten! True love, deep love! Congratulations to the beloved ones!!!”
The soon-to-be bride also announced her engagement on her own Instagram. Her post included a collection of photos featuring both childhood pictures of her and Gruzinski, as well as more recent images.
“I’m going to hang out with my favorite person on earth forever!!!!!!!!” Banderas wrote in the caption.
