Australians love visiting Greece

Greece was ranked first on the list with 162% year-over-year increase in bookings

Webjet Australia, a travel booking website, conducted a survey on Australians preferences in vacation destinations showing that Greece, Spain and Italy are among the favorite destinations of Australians.

The results were based on bookings between January and August 2014, as well as between January and August 2015, as the International Business Times noted.

Greece was ranked first on the list with 162% year-over-year increase in bookings followed by Spain (107%) and Italy (91%).

“With improved connections worldwide from ports like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, it is now much easier, direct and cost-effective for Australians to travel to Europe’s less traveled destinations,” Webjet Australia chief executive John Guscic told the International Business Times.

Moreover, the survey showed a number of surprise destinations, such as Cambodia, which has recently become a favorite destination for Australians with a 63% growth in year-on-year bookings.

As Webjet underlines, Australians do not prefer the conventional “exotic” destinations, such as Bali and Thailand, increasing their booking to destinations such as Cambodia.
