ECB opening baptized with fire and teargas in Frankfurt

Blockupy protestors and the police clashed on Wednesday in Frankfurt on the day of the European Central Bank’s opening of its headquarters. Demonstrators threw stones at police, set tires on fire, blocked a central bridge and roudabout path closing off transport while heavy riot police were present to help contain the riots that broke out early on Wednesday. Blockupy, an alliance of leftist groups, are known for their protests in the banking district since 2012.

Eight policemen have been injured by demonstrators throwing stones


The official opening of the ECB building is programmed for noon (Greek time).
