Bloomberg: Lagarde plans to meet Tsipras on Greek bailout

They are expected to discuss ways to reduce Greece’s debt to sustainable levels

IMF Director Christine Lagarde plans to meet with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to discuss Greece’s bailout package, Bloomberg says citing an anonymous source.

According to the source, they are expected to discuss ways to reduce Greece’s debt to sustainable levels, while it is likely to discuss also issues such as the structural reforms required by Greece’s international creditors, including changes to its pension system.

Lagarde and Tsipras are scheduled to meet Jan. 21 on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, though the plans could still change, said the source.

IMF spokesman Andreas Adriano declined to comment, as did a Greek government spokesman.

EU economics commissioner Pierre Moscovici told Greece not to “play games” with the International Monetary Fund.

“2015 was difficult enough, let’s make 2016 a year of solutions,” Moscovici said in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung published on Thursday.

“For many [EU] member countries, not only Germany, the participation of the IMF is an absolute necessity,” he said.
