Attack against satirical French newspaper “Charlie Hebdo”- Twelve dead (RAW Video+Photos)

Twelve people were killed from gunfire at the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and seven wounded, according to eyewitnesses and the French media.

According to preliminary reports two men dressed in black assaulted the building of weekly satirical newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” in the heart of Paris, and opened fire with AK-47s.

“Half an hour ago, two men wearing black hoods and armed with Kalashnikovs stormed the building. A few minutes later we heard gunfire”, said a witness, adding that people were running away from the building. According to newspaper “Le Parisien” many of the journalists took refuge on the roof of the building.

President Francois Hollande is going to the point of attack and has convened an emergency cabinet meeting, according to the French presidency. The French PM and strong police forces are also on the scene.

A general state of alert has been declared for the area in and around Paris, according to the French presidency.

The French satirical newspaper is a “red flag” for Islam, as many times it had satirized the Prophet Muhammad. In its latest edition, the newspaper intended to “celebrate” the victory of an Islamist party in Tunisia’s elections last month. According to the French press, the newspaper had received several threats on Twitter and Facebook before today’s bloody attack. The latest tweet on the 7th of January was a cartoon of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. He appeared in the caricature saying: “Best wishes, and above all, health”.
