“Only if it is judged that Turkey is at war will the Bosporus Straits be closed,” Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Turkish journalists in Kazakhstan.
The Turkish Foreign Minister said that the authorities are monitoring the issue after the official request of Ukraine and stressed that the articles are quite clear and that Turkey will implement the Montreux Convention without hesitation, as it has done until now, but clarified that even if the Straits closed Russia has the right under the Montreux Treaty to demand the return of its ships to their base.
