Chile: Authorities warn of new Calbuco eruptions

The ashfall has caused severe problems, including environmental worries

The Chilean Calbuco activity was lessened yesterday, after the unexpected double eruption which took place last week. Authorities, however, note that there might be a new explosion, while worries over environment backlash are increased. Calbuco has spewed forth 210 million metric tonnes of ash. A thick sheet of ash has covered nearby cities, while authorities have evacuated over 6.5 thousand people from their homes.

According to ONEMI of Chile, the Calbuco activity indicates that there may be further eruptions.

The country of Chile contains 2,000 volcanoes, out of which 500 are active.
