Crucial Eurogroup meeting kicks off, not much optimism

Greece eyes an ‘interim agreement’

The crucial Eurogroup meeting for Greece takes place in Riga, Latvia at 9 a.m. The government is optimistic that a decision will be reached in mid-May or before June, but there appeared little optimism in the markets ahead of the meeting.

In a constructive meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the EU leaders council, it was stated that an ‘interim agreement’ would be reached by April 30 despite differences.

It is hoped that the Eurogroup meeting will bring a resolution to reform negotiations between Greece and its creditors.
