Despotiko, small island to become an open museum (photos + video)

The antiquities, beaches and natural beauty will be open for all to enjoy

The Cycladic island of Despotiko, west of Antiparos, will soon be an open museum so that the public at large can enjoy the archaeological findings on the island following 17 years of excavations. The small island has incredible natural beauty and people came here to worship the god Apollo and created an ancient temple in his honor. The lavish marble temple is a focal point of the island known as Prepesinthos that also worshipped Artemis and the goddess Estia.

The people of Paros build their temples here due to a rivalry with Naxos over control of the Aegean Sea. The island was attacked by the navy of Miltiadis and, later, by avenging pirates.
