Did Yanis ‘shoot the bird’? – You make the call

The latest controversy gets increased media coverage in Germany

Yanis Varoufakis took to his prolific social media accounts on Tuesday in an attempt to deflect growing criticism that he essentially “gave the finger” during a 2013 address in Croatia, when commented on the Greek debt burden and German demands.

The specific video and the question of whether the increasingly eccentric Greek FinMin did, or didn’t, make the obscene hand gesture, or whether it was an unintended slight towards Germany or even a misunderstanding, continued to generated heated coverage in that country.

Regardless, the latest “chapter” in the Varoufakis saga added yet another negative “sidesho” issue to the already strained relations between the month-and-a-half-old leftist government in Athens and eurozone partners, especially Berlin.

You make the call.
